Organization and Operations

The Arkansas Arts Council is made up of seventeen members appointed by the Governor. Two members represent each of the eight Planning and Development Districts and one member represents the state at-large. The council and staff are responsible for the development and coordination of a comprehensive statewide program for the support of the arts. The Arkansas Arts Council establishes and carries out grant programs to groups and individuals engaged in or concerned with the arts.

List and Description of Records

The Arkansas Arts Council computer database contains names and vital information for arts organizations, schools, libraries, museums, municipalities, state and federal agencies, artists and interested individuals from throughout Arkansas and the nation.

Physical archive files are maintained for arts organizations, current and former council members, individual artists and groups and Arkansas Arts Council programs.

Paper files and computer records of grant activities are maintained as required by law.

Regulations and Rules of Procedure

The Arkansas Arts Council operates under rules and regulations, which have been approved through the Administrative Procedures Act, as outlined in its annual Guide to Grants. The grant guidelines are available on the Arts Council website.
